Somatic Massage

A somatic Massage session is a massage that focuses releasing the emotions, stresses, and traumas stored within the body, and especially the nervous system. This approach involves gentle and caring touch, coupled with guidance to help you explore your feelings more deeply, enabling a richer process than simply retelling the story of what happened.


Taking advantage of James being experience and qualified in Somatic Psychotherapy and various massage styles this is a beautiful bridge between the two. Utilising very gentle techniques that allow you to be present in the body, they encourage you to relax and let go of the tensions and emotions that you are ready to let go of. This is as much a body scan through touch as it is a massage.


Working in a semi-systematic manner, starting at the head and finishing at the feet, the front of the body is gently worked at its own pace, allowing areas that need a little more time to have that time needed. Working to calm the nervous system from fight or flight to rest and relax, while also releasing tension from lots of the smaller muscles around the chest, abdomen, hips, and many other places. This means that the chest can open more, and the body feel lighter, with energy that was used to fuel these muscles tension able to be released. 


This isn't just a one time relax though, each session works to reprogram the nervous system and the body's default tension levels throughout. With benefits coming as both a one time thing or from a serious of regular sessions.


The sessions are normally done through clothing, so please wear loose fitted comfortable clothing to the sessions. If you would prefer the massage to be against skin that is absolutely fine and we can provide towels or drapes as coverings to use instead.
